The Yorkshire Dales National Park was established in 1954 to conserve its natural beauty. The rolling hills have been shaped by both mining and farming practices. A short walk from the front door of Hazel Brow can take you to timeless views across the dales.

For those looking to challenge themselves the landscape lends itself to challenging hikes and even caving and pot holing. For fitness enthusiasts you can try your hand at fell running in the Swaledale Marathon or a more relaxing amble to the River Swale via the nearest pub or cafe.

A great place for walking

The narrow valley of Swaledale with its fell side fields and glacier-formed landscapes is criss crossed with footpaths, hiking trails and bridleways.

Biking Festivals

Swaledale plays host to the annual Ard Rock Mountain Biking Festival and has long been a favourite for cycling enthusiasts.

Tour De France

In 2014, Stage One of the Tour de France took place in the Yorkshire Dales, climbing up and over the buttertubs Pass and down through Swaledale, making for a great spectacle.
